Accused in fatal Vadodara accident claims responsibility, denies alcohol influence, 'was not drunk, car's airbag opened blocked vision'

Vadodara: Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, the driver involved in a deadly collision in Vadodara, claimed responsibility for the fatal accident that resulted in the death of one woman and left eight others injured. Chaurasia, currently in police custody, denied being under the influence of alcohol, despite police registering a drink-and-drive case against him.

Although an initially shared video showed the accused appearing drunk and shouting random words, including 'another round,' he claimed that he was unaware of the severity of the incident. He explained what happened on Friday night: 'We were ahead of the scooter, turning right when there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooter and a car while we were turning right... The car slightly touched the other vehicle, and the airbag opened suddenly. Our vision was hampered, and the car went out of control,' Chaurasia said, describing the moment of the accident."

Chaurasia further stressed that he was not drunk, despite claims of impaired driving. "I went for a Holika Dahan celebration and did not attend any party. I was driving at 50 km/h, and there were no people on the road at the time, just a scooter and a car," he added.

The accused expressed his regret for the incident, stating that he was unaware of the woman's death and the injuries caused to others. "I want to meet the family of the victims. It is my fault, and whatever they want should happen," he said, acknowledging his responsibility for the crash.

The collision involved multiple vehicles, including two active vehicles and one electric vehicle (EV), according to Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar. The accident resulted in the tragic death of a woman, while eight others sustained injuries. Investigative teams are currently piecing together evidence from the scene, including tracking the movements of Chaurasia and his co-passenger.

Komar confirmed that Chaurasia is in police custody, and further investigation is underway. "Three other vehicles – two active vehicles and an electric vehicle – were involved in the incident. Eight people were injured, and one woman has died. Multiple investigative teams are looking into the matter," he said.

The police are continuing to recover evidence from the crime scene and are tracking the movements of Chaurasia's co-passenger. The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the incident.
